Thanks go to the many generous area residents who made donations, to the volunteers who set up, worked the sale, and packed the leftovers in record time, and to the hundreds of people who purchased items! Women of the Pines collected more funds than ever before, to be distributed among the many charities we support. Plans are already underway for the 2014 sale, so mark your calendars and plan to participate on April 12.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2013 Fashion Show: organizers, clothing vendors, businesses that donated raffle items, models, make-up artists, and Pinehurst Country Club staff. We had our largest attendance ever, assuring that we raised the most funds ever for this event to be donated to the charities we support. Visit the photo album to see the models in their outfits. See you in 2014 for the next Fashion Show!
Anna Leib, Scholarship Chairperson, is seen here with Alisha Hamilton (l) and Kristen Davis (r), both Sandhills Community College (SCC) students. They are the 2012 – 2013 recipients of scholarships provided by Women Of The Pines. Alisha’s major is Early Childhood Education. Kristen is in the Nursing program. The awards were presented at the SCC Scholarship Dinner on October 24.
On October 20, the Women of the Pines participated in the 34th annual Holly Arts and Crafts Festival, held in the Village of Pinehurst. Volunteers donated sweets and savories to sell to hungry shoppers and raffled a large basket of goodies, all to continue to raise funds for our target charity organizations. Additional volunteers set up and staffed the WotP booth from early morning until after the Fair closed at 4 p.m. As in the past, the treats were sold out, and we thank everyone who volunteered and donated to make this effort a success.
Thanks to our members, their spouses and friends, and generous donations of time and resources from around the community, the April 28 Rummage Sale at the Old West End Gym was a big success!
Volunteers spent the week before the sale organizing donated items collected throughout the year into "departments" from Linens and Clothing to Sporting Goods and Housewares. Hundreds of shoppers crowded into the sale starting at 8 a.m. looking for bargains and hidden gems.
WotP members prepared homemade treats for a table packed with baked goods, and shoppers fueled their efforts (and rested their feet) with ham biscuits and hot coffee for breakfast, hot dogs and sodas for lunch in the dining area set up right in front. Many a husband could be spotted with an armload of goodies as his wife led the way through the aisles of kitchen tools, home decor, and bric-a-brac, and plenty of guys found great deals on shop tools, golf equipment, and electronics. Many shoppers returned again and again, as long as their cars had some space available for another bag of goodies.
The 2012 was our biggest ever, and we look forward to surpassing our record in 2013.
